It's hard to believe that it's been three years since someone planted a bomb along the route of the Seaside Park Semper 5K run. On September 17, 2016, a bomb exploded in a trashcan. Luckily it went off before the race started, and no one was injured.

Ahmad Khan Rahimi was eventually caught, and is already facing multiple life sentences after planting bombs in Seaside, Elizabeth, and Chelsea NY.

Now, a Union County jury convicted Rahimi of attempting to kill Linden police officers during a gunfight that ensued after he was identified. Rahimi had actually fallen asleep on the front steps of a bar in Elizabeth. The bar owner called police, and former Linden officer Angel Padilla was first on the scene. Padilla was shot in the chest by Rahimi, but thankfully his bulletproof vest saved his life.

According to reports, Rahimi has shown absolutely no remorse for what he did, and had been trying to radicalize fellow prisoners.
