Ron Jaworski, chairman of the Arena Football League’s executive committee and majority owner of the AFL's Philadelphia Soul, announced that a team would begin playing in Atlantic City this season.

Boardwalk Hall previously hosted the Soul in 2015 in the DraftKings Boardwalk Bowl game, and will be the home arena for the as-yet-unnamed Atlantic City team.

City Council President Marty Small said

Atlantic City is always looking for ways to appeal to residents and visitors with new and different amenities, and this definitely fits. I’m for anything that will bring family-oriented entertainment here.

The main draw for bringing a team to Atlantic City is obviously gambling, with sports books now in seven casinos. Resorts Casino Hotel is already partnered with DraftKings, who have their own partnership with the Arena Football League.

AC has had professional sports teams before, but none have managed to stick around. While there are still talks about bringing back the Surf, it'll be interesting to see how much success an AFL team can have, and how long they can stay.
