Outstanding Wine Selection Grades For These Top NJ Restaurants

Restaurants had to learn how to be creative during the pandemic.  Ways they never imagined.  As they make their way back from the effects of covid19, hiring workers back has been the new big challenge.

Unfortunately, some could not survive.

There are several that not only persevered but thrived.  Some have even been recognized for excellence in their wine list.

Wine Spectator has been honoring restaurants with extraordinary wine programs, since 1981. They recently unveiled its annual list of awards.  Featured in their August 31 issue, this prestigious honor is earned not only for restaurants' excellent wine lists but also for those who’ve “demonstrated passion and devoted extensive resources to creating outstanding wine programs.”

The magazine also says...

“To qualify for an award, a wine list must present complete, accurate information, including vintages and appellations for all selections. Complete producer names and correct spellings are mandatory, and the overall presentation of the list is also considered.”

Three categories of awards are offered for entry; Award of Excellence, Best of Award of Excellence, and Wine Spector’s most distinguished privilege, The Grand Award.

A lot goes into winning the Grand Award.  Including passing a meticulous restaurant and wine cellar inspection.  New jersey recipients of this year’s Grand Award include;

The Pluckemin Inn, Bedminster, NJ

Restaurant Latour, Hamburg, NJ

Both are about an hour outside of New York City.

I am proud to say that the class of 2021 includes 72 restaurants from New Jersey that were recognized this year.  18 of those 72 establishments are located in Atlantic City.
