The Italian-American Association of Ocean Township was faced with a tough decision regarding this year's festival, and were forced to cancel their annual festival for the first time since 1976.

The festival usually happened in early August at Joe Palaia Park in Oakhurst (yes, this is the Ocean Township in Monmouth County, not Ocean County) but even with that much time to go, the organizers felt they wouldn't be able to pull it off.

It's a bummer to see more groups cancel events that are so far off...but honestly, it's already June, so an event in August isn't that much of a jump into the future. Even as the curve flattens and more things open up, it will be tough to see many groups going forward with large gatherings like this.

At the moment, the Ocean County Italian Festival is still scheduled for October.
