More people have been getting vaccinated and those who haven't yet still have the opportunities to do so, but at a couple different locations in Ocean County.

The Ocean County Health Department announced on Thursday that the vaccination clinics at Southern Regional Middle School in Manahawkin and at the RWJ-Barnabas Health Arena in Toms River are closed and being replaced with two new locations to get your shots.

“The large sites which could accommodate thousands of vaccinations daily have served us well, and we are very appreciative that Toms River Regional School District and Southern Regional School District stepped up without hesitation and provided their schools and staff so that we could get this vaccine to our residents,” Ocean County Commissioner Gerry Little, who serves as liaison to the Ocean County Health Department, said in a statement. “The assistance they gave us is immeasurable.”

For your vaccine shots, you can now go to the Ocean County Health Department itself, which is located at 175 Sunset Avenue in Toms River, and do so on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm.

You can also go to the drive-thru vaccination clinic at Ocean County College on Wednesdays from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm.

This is the set-up for the month of July.

“I want to encourage all the people who live in Ocean County that can get this vaccine to do so,” Ocean County Board of Commissioners Director Gary Quinn said in a statement. “We want to see this infection level to continue to decrease and the only way this will happen is to have people get vaccinated.”

The two big sites in Toms River and Manahawkin are closed, being replaced by the aforementioned locations, but there are still 13 other sites throughout Ocean County you can go to for vaccines.

“Starting the week of July 5, on various dates, our residents can visit some local library branches, some schools and the Ocean County Fire and First Aid Training Center in Waretown to get the COVID 19 vaccination,” Little said. “All the locations are easily accessible and convenience is key for a lot of our citizens.”

Ocean County Public Health Coordinator Dan Regenye said that the Health Department has provided more than 110,200 vaccines to date and they're hoping to keep that number rising stressing the importance of rolling up your sleeves and getting protected against Covid-19 whether it's the Moderna, Pfizer or J&J vaccine.

“We continue to promote the importance of getting vaccinated,” Regenye said in a statement. “It’s so important we keep up the momentum and make certain we have as many locations as possible that people can access.”

There are five Ocean County towns, and they happen to be five of the most populated in Ocean County which have been identified by the state where vaccinate rates need a big boost.

Some more than others.

Brick, Jackson, Lakewood, Toms River and Lacey are those towns.

"Clearly the vaccine is helping and has allowed the lifting of many restrictions including wearing masks to eating indoors at restaurants," Little said. “This is not over. We need to continue to be vigilant and to take precautions like staying home when you’re sick, hand sanitizing and just a greater awareness in general.”

Since March of 2020 Ocean County has recorded 66,048 cases of the coronavirus.
