Ocean County Affected By Canine Illness ‘Epidemic’
Point Pleasant Police and Animal Control are warning residents of Point Pleasant, Point Pleasant Beach, and Bay Head to keep an eye on their pets after dozens of raccoons have been afflicted with distemper.
Although the symptoms are similar to rabies, the method of infection is more dangerous to animals. Rabies is transferred through saliva, but distemper can pass from animal to animal through the air.
Both of my dogs are up to date on their vaccinations, but if any of your pets need their shots, this is definitely the time to get it done.
