One simple tweet sent the sports world spinning yesterday, but in the end, it was just a troll that far too many people fell for.

I'm pretty sure I've seen that Twitter account connected to other hoaxes, so I don't know why anyone fell for this particular one again. Unless he really altered his page, I don't get why anyone would think "Dr. Barry McCockiner" was a legit NFL insider. Regardless, news sources ran with it, and then almost immediately, the backlash hit.

Even Snopes had to get involved to confirm that no deal had been reached.

At this stage during the pandemic, people (including myself) are so starved for any sports/sports news, I guess we'll latch on to just about anything.
