For over 30 years, the Route 70 Auction and Flea Market has been located on Route 70, just north of Route 9. Now, the Lakewood Planning Board has announced they will need to move in order to make room for 166 townhouses.

Miriam Weinstein, the developer’s attorney, said she couldn’t provide a definite date for the flea market’s closure.

Adam Reynolds, whose parents opened the flea market in 1979, said he’s still hopeful it will be another year or longer before the business has to leave. The flea market went on hiatus for January and February but they still plan on reopening March 4th. Reynolds also mentioned previous development plans for the site had failed, and he does "...anticipate that we will have a couple more seasons there, but obviously we’re going to have to be looking to relocate,” he said.
