I like going on vacation as much as the next person, and what's kind of scary is that nowadays you have to give a little extra thought to where you're traveling, especially if you're traveling internationally.

Travel Warnings Are Becoming More Common For US Travelers Heading Abroad

Not every country is particularly welcoming of American travelers, and there are some countries that are just dangerous to visit.

I remember when my wife and I were going to Italy, I was very nervous, mainly because it was the first time I was leaving the country, but also because I was told that, as an American, I could be the target of crime. Everything was fine; the trip was amazing, and I can't wait to visit again, but still, I was a little nervous.

A level 2 advisory means that tourists could potentially see an increase in terrorism and crime if they choose to travel to that country.

What Does Each Travel Alert Level Mean?

There are four levels of travel advisory, according to the Department of State.

Level 1 means you should use normal caution; there are no notable issues with the country you're traveling to.

Level 2, as you see above, means that you should monitor local news in that country and use an increased level of caution before you travel.

Level 3 means you'll want to reconsider your travel plans. Level 3 right now affects places like Colombia, Honduras, and Kuwait.

Level 4 means you shouldn't travel to that country. Places like Belarus, Somalia, Russia, and Sudan are on that list.

Between you and I, I'll just keep my vacation days enjoying the Jersey Shore.
