In a vote cast this morning, state officials approved a 22-mile natural gas pipeline through South Jersey, which will allow the project that had been years in the making to begin. Despite opposition from the public, and an earlier denial of the proposal in 2014, the project got the approval of the Pinelands Commission.

The pipeline will run through the Pinelands, allowing the B.L. England power plant at Beesley’s Point to convert from coal to natural gas. Protestors believe the risk to the ecosystem is too great, but the Commission ruled that the proposal complies with all state guidelines.
