With statewide COVID-19 restrictions limiting the number of spectators at indoor sporting events, local wrestling teams have tried to get creative and move some of their matches outside.

The first of its kind was contested on Thursday afternoon when Pinelands Regional High School squared off with Barnegat High School. The match was contested on the football field with bright, sunny skies overhead. Pinelands emerged with a 58-24 victory.

There are two additional outdoor matches scheduled for Saturday when Shore Regional hosts Ocean Township and Point Boro welcomes Red Bank Catholic.
