The LBI shuttle, which used to bring locals and tourists up and down the barrier island for free, will start charging for the first time this Memorial Day Weekend.

According to Long Beach Township Board of Commissioners, here are the new details:

  • One-way shuttle rides from 10am to 10pm will cost $2; or passengers can pay $5 for unlimited rides until 10pm.
  • After 10pm, a one-way ride will be $5; or riders can pay $10 for unlimited rides until the shuttles stop operating.

The hours of the shuttle will be increased this summer.

  • Sunday through Wednesday, the shuttle will run until 11pm.
  • Thursday and Friday until 1:30am.
  • Saturday night will run until about 2:30am.
