A Lakewood man is heading to jail for a detention hearing on charges stemming from his arrest on Thursday after being found with a large stash of drugs and cash.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer announced Friday the conclusion of a two-month, multi-agency cooperative investigation into illegal drug activity in the area.

Detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Strike Force, Lakewood Police Street Crimes Unit and Brick Police Street Crimes Unit teamed up to identify a residence in Lakewood that was being used to store and sell Heroin.

They executed a search warrant Thursday and found James Wallace, 34, in possession of about 1,800 dosage units of heroin and nearly $2,300 in cash.

Wallace is now charged with Possession of Heroin in an Amount Greater than One-Half Ounce with Intent to Distribute, Distribution of Heroin in an Amount Less than One-Half Ounce, Possession of Heroin in an Amount Less than One-Half Ounce with Intent to Distribute and two counts of Possession of Heroin.

“This was truly a collaborative investigation and all the officers involved did an outstanding job. Together, we will continue to root out these drug dealers - and the poisons they peddle - from our neighborhoods and communities,” Prosecutor Billhimer said in a statement.
