Hello Jersey Shore!

I return with a little fun fact: There may be money floating around out there....that could be YOURS!

Great news, right?

Listen to Nicole Murray middays on 94.3 The Point and download our free 94.3 The Point app.

The reason some extra cash might be within your reach is thanks to a huge settlement made with the service known as Plaid.

What is Plaid you ask?

Basically, it is a service that can link your bank account information to various applications. The most common uses are to valid bank account information or to make payments.

So, for example, when you send or receive money via Venmo without having to leave the app or head to your bank account directly, that is Plaid's services at work.

Technology at its finest...

But now this massive company is in some hot water.

According to Yahoo.com, Plaid has been, "accused of collecting excessive financial data from consumers [and] obtaining users' bank login information via its own 'Plaid Link' interface, 'which had the look and feel of the user's own bank account login screen.'"

What does this mean in laments terms? Plaid was gathering too much info on end users and at times, people were even giving Plaid their information unknowingly.

As a result, Plaid must pay out a lump sum of $58 million to their users who were affected.

Plaid has not admitted to any wrong doing but there wouldn't be a lawsuit of this size for nothing!

Here's how this can benefit you: you may be entitled to part of that $58 million if you used any application that utilizes Plaid's services which includes over 5,500 applications so more than likely, you are eligible to file a claim.

But before I give you more information on deadlines, let's first take a look at some of the most common applications that are included in this lawsuit:

PLAID: Which Banks & Applications Apply To The Settlement?

Let's take a look at some of the most common financial apps.

Did you use one of those applications between January 1st, 2013 and November 19th, 2021?

If the answer is yes, then your next step is to submit a claim by April 28th, 2022. You will have to provide your basic information and the list of applications you have that are linked to your bank account.

Crazy, right? But it just goes to show you that you never really know how safe your information is in the cyber sphere.

Good luck and think GREEEEN.
