New Jersey’s Connections To The Big Game This Weekend
It turns out that none of the local football teams could get it done this year, but that doesn't mean there aren't New Jersey things to look out for during this year's big game.
There always seems to be a handful of connections to the Garden State in the championship game every year, and this year is certainly no exception.
Patch found a half-dozen players or coaches in the big game with New Jersey ties. there are 4 for the San Francisco 49ers and two for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Three of those connections are players who attended Rutgers. They are the 49ers Logan Ryan and Sebastian Joseph-Day, and Isiah Pacheco the Chiefs.
Other New Jersey ties include the fact that Kansas City's Offensive Coordinator Matt Nagy was born in Dunellen, San Francisco's Ji'Ayir Brown went to Trenton Central High School, and the 49ers defensive lineman Kevin Givens was born in Newark.
If you're going to choose the team you're rooting for based on the number of New Jersey connections they have, then your decorations should be gold and red.
If you are a Giants fan, this may help you decide. Big Blue is 11-4 vs. the Chiefs all-time, while the 49ers have a slight edge against the Giants, having won 22 of the 43 meetings.
The Jets have a lifetime record of 18-20-1 against the Chiefs and are 3-11 against the 49ers.
The Eagles have had little success against San Francisco historically, holding a 14-20-1 record against the Niners, while they are a respectable 5-5 against the Chiefs.
