One of the newer Christmas traditions is the "Elf on a Shelf" doll. In case you don't know, the premise is simple. The Elf on a Shelf "arrives" right after Thanksgiving, and stays around until Christmas reporting the children's behavior back to Santa every night.

Each night when the kids go to bed, the parents move the elf to a different part of the house doing something different so when the kids wake up, they believe the elf has powers. The elf on the shelf is not to be touched or moved by kids in the house or else Santa won't bring any presents on Christmas
