The Freehold Borough Council has unanimously voted to approve the very first medical marijuana dispensary in the municipality.

Garden State Botanicals, which was founded by pharmaceutical veteran Pat Nasshorn of Margate, gave a presentation at a special council meeting, and the council voted 6-0 in support.

The proposed site, an abandoned warehouse on Throckmorton Street, still needs approval from the state Department of Health. The dispensary would be open from 11 a.m.-7 p.m., with no late hours.

Garden State Botanicals said that the dispensary could raise an estimated $120,000 to $160,000 in revenue for Freehold Borough from taxes, based on up to $8 million in revenue. It also was estimated it would employ up to 10 people at a time.

Another step in removing the stigma around marijuana, and another step towards decriminalizing and legalizing it!
