5 Stupid Easy Ways to Prepare for Flooding in New Jersey

After a few weeks of stress and anxiety, my fiancee and I are finally starting to settle into our little apartment right off the beach in Seaside Heights.

It’s always been a dream of ours to live at the Jersey Shore, so to say we are beyond excited is an understatement!

The other day, however, after driving down 37 and crossing over the bridge back onto the island I just happened to run into my landlord and his wife.

They brought something to my attention that I didn’t think of before. 

Call it naivety or just blissful ignorance, but Tom (my landlord, gotta give him a shout out, he’s a really cool dude) asked if he could let me in on a little secret that he forgot to mention prior to Rachel and I moving in.

We walked down the alley that’s attached to our apartment, and Tom cracked open the large plastic white gate that separates the alley from the backyard.

He goes on to say that Seaside Heights of course is a flood zone.

So if I ever see water building up in the alley just check on the three sump pumps he has back there and make sure they are cleared of any debris.

I can’t believe I didn’t realize prior to moving in that yes, of course, a beach town is going to be a flood zone!
