STAFFORD — A teenager who crashed their car was driving under the influence of alcohol, according to the Stafford Township Police Department.

Stafford Police Officers responded to a 911 distress call at 6:33 am on Friday in the area of Mermaid Drive and Steamer Avenue for a motor vehicle accident.

Investigators learned that Garret Clapper, 18, of Manchester lost control of his 2003 Chevy Silverado as he was driving northbound on Mermaid Drive leading to him colliding with a curb and overturning in the roadway.

Clapper was charged with driving while under the intoxicated, reckless driving, and failure to maintain lane. No injuries were reported in the crash.

Clapper was released pending a future court date at the Stafford Township Municipal Court.

While he only suffered some minor injuries, this incident follows a line of reported drinking and driving accidents on Ocean County roadways.

Last week, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer released the toxicology reports of the two young men who died in a fatal Toms River crash in November.

The report revealed that Braden DeMartin, 22, of Toms River was driving his Porsche Boxter well under the influence of alcohol and marijuana when it launched into a building on Hooper Avenue, killing him and his passenger Daniel Foley, 23, of Toms River.
