Ground was broken last summer at Bernie Cooke Park in Brick, at the corner of Burnt Tavern and Herborn Avenue, for Brick's new 5th Pocket Skatepark.

The artist renderings looked awesome, and it's almost time to see the park for real!

5th Pocket Skateparks will host the Brick Skatepark Ribbon Cutting & Grand Opening ceremony on Thursday, May 23rd at 5pm. There will be a full open sessions for skaters (skateboards only, no scooters, no rollerblades, no bikes, and skaters 17 and younger must wear a helmet). There will also be free giveaways, plus meet-and-greet-and-skate the 5th Pocket Crew.

The park isn't just for skaters, and will include a multi-purpose field with an infield for baseball/softball, a basketball court, two age-appropriate playgrounds for children up to 12, a bicycle training course for young people and a walking/jogging path.

I gave away my skateboard long ago, and I have doubts that I'd be able get back to grinding, but I still think it's awesome to have this setup for kids (and adults) to get out and shred.
