After Ravaging Fire, Vineland Church Holds Service in City Hall

Six days after a massive 4-alarm fire destroyed Vineland's Voice of Deliverance New Covenant Church, worshipers gathered for Sunday services in Vineland City Hall.

Vineland Mayor Anthony Fanucci opened city council chambers for Sunday's service and said he will do the same next Sunday.

There is still no definite word from fire officials on what caused last Monday night's blaze, but it happened as a thunderstorm with multiple lightning strikes hit the area. No one was hurt in the fire.

The church on the 400 block of East Chestnut Avenue was founded in 1978 and was planning to celebrate its 35th anniversary on Aug. 27, according to its website.

"We've been looking for a place to go. It's very hard, losing the church so fast," said Symfani Taylor, the public relations director for the church told 6ABC on Sunday.

A GoFundMe campaign to help the church rebuild has brought in just over $2700 as of Monday, Aug 14.

"It feels that I'm contributing, and our city of Vineland is contributing to helping them get back on their foot again and it feels really, really good. It's one of the best feelings anyone can feel, to help the other people that are in need of help,"  Sheena Santiago, the events coordinator for Vineland said speaking to 6ABC.
