The World Cup in 2026 has been officially awarded to a group made up of Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

2026 will be the first year where 48 teams, rather than the current 32, will be competing. 80 matches will take place across the three countries, but it will be a distinctly American World Cup as 60 of those matches will be held in the states, including all of the matches from the quarterfinals through the Championship game (where MetLife Stadium is considered the front-runner).

While plans are finalized over the next eight years, today kicks off the 2018 tournament in Russia! Who are you rooting for? The US team failed to qualify (womp womp) and surprisingly Italy didn't make the cut either. Will Germany repeat after winning in 2014? Will some of the other big hitters like Spain, Brazil, or Argentina come out on top? Could the lovable underdogs from Iceland strike gold? Who are you rooting for?

Since my 3 nationalities (Irish/Italian/American) aren't in this year's Cup, I'm left rooting for France (don't judge) and Iceland (because I fell in love with them last time). Who are you pulling for?
