Whiting man in critical condition after motorcycle was struck by vehicle
A Whiting man is in critical condition after he was hit by a vehicle while riding his motorcycle between Route 530 and Fox Street Tuesday.
Manchester Police said in a statement that 64-year old Terrence Lee was heading eastbound on Route 530 when a Nissan Sentra tried turning onto that road at the same time from Pine Ridge Boulevard causing a collision.
Lee's motorcycle spun 180-degrees forcing him from his bike and onto the roadway.
He was conscious and alert when police arrived but suffered serious injuries leading to him being flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
Police said Lee was wearing his helmet at the time of the crash.
The driver of the Nissan Sentra, 89-year old Joseph Orlando of Whiting, fled the scene, went home and called 9-1-1 due to respiratory distress from the accident.
Orlando was brought to Community Medical Center for treatment.
This crash is being investigated by Patrolman Michael O’Hara of the department’s Traffic Safety section but police say at this point that driver error looks to be the primary contributing factor of the accident.
