Surf City Police are out with a scam alert for customers of Atlantic City Electric.

Officers responded to a business on October 27 who received phone calls from an individual claiming to be a "finance manager" with Atlantic City Electric.

The mystery phone caller told the business they'd been flagged for non-payment and ace would send out a technician in an hour to turn off their electricity.

Employees then realized this was a scam.

The number used to call the business came up as an Atlantic City Electric 800#.

Police said the employees checked everything out and discovered that their account was up-to-date, so there was no loss.

The employees told police that this scam felt "very real".

Police remind residents that Atlantic City Electric representatives will NEVER call and ask you for cash or request that you purchase a prepaid credit card to make a payment on your bill.
