The Winter Olympics in PyeonChang are over and while there were plenty of highlights there was disappointment as far as the general performance of Team USA. The U.S. finished with 23 medals in their poorest overall showing since 1998 which is maximized when you consider all of the American-friendly sports that have been added over the last 20 years.

The U.S. Olympic Committee had projected American athletes and teams would win a minimum of 25 medals while 37 was the target goal. Of course the difference in winning medals and just missing is often hundredths of a second as 35 athletes from the U.S. finished 4th, 5th or 6th and just missed out on making the medal stand.

Not to be forgotten are the gold-medal winning performances from Mikaela Shiffrin, Shaun White, Chloe Kim, Red Gerard, Jamie Anderson, and David Wise as well as the Women’s Ice Hockey, Women’s Cross Country Sprint and Men’s Curling teams.

Next up are the Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan in July of 2020.
