According to Bob Badders of the Shore Sports Network, the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association has banned the Central Regional and Toms River East football teams from postseason play.

Both the Central Regional Golden Eagles and TRE Raiders had three players ejected during Central’s 42-0 Class A South victory last Friday night. NJSIAA rules state that any team accumulating three or more disqualifications in one season can not enter into the tournament.

The official rule reads:

1. Any Varsity team accumulating three or more player or coach disqualifications for flagrant unsportsmanlike conduct prior to the start of the NJSIAA tournament will not be permitted to participate in same. Seeded teams will forfeit their right to compete if a disqualification limit is reached prior to the start of the tournament for the team.

Joe Arminio, athletic director for the Toms River Regional School District, told the Asbury Park Press, "We do take these things very seriously," and the incident "will be dealt with."

Central Regional Superintendent Tom Parlapanides was more critical of the NJSIAA, saying the ban hurts the players from both teams who were not part of the fight.

"We all make mistakes but the adults need to communicate and do things right," Parlapanides said. "It is not right to the 40 or 50 players from East and Central that worked hard all summer not to be able to play in the States. You only get one Senior year! There is no time machine."
