Darian Barnes was a standout fullback at Toms River High School North. He also played at Rutgers University before transferring to Hampton University. He was drafted by the Giants, but ended up being waived before the season started. The day after being released by the Giants, he was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the timing worked perfectly as Barnes ended up being a member of the Bucs team that won Super Bowl XXXVII. He ended being traded to the Cowboys, then bounced around the NFL (with the Dolphins, Bills, Jets, Lions, and Saints) before retiring.

Barnes took a job as the coach of the Toms River North football team, and has since moved to Rahway to become a teacher. With a life full of football, all of his time was taken up between practice, watching game film, traveling, and games; with people always there to cook for him, he never learned how to cook for himself.

Becky, Darian's wife, along with his daughters, submitted his name to the Food Network's show "Worst Cooks In America" - and he got chosen! He'll be one of fourteen contestants competing for the grand prize of $25,000.

This season of "Worst Cooks In America" was filmed earlier this year (before the pandemic), and the first episode airs this Sunday at 9pm on the Food Network. Obviously Barnes can't talk about the results of the show, but he told Patch that the show was "a great experience" and he never thought he would have learned how to cook.
