Let's talk about power outages because we will have heavy snow and strong winds, so there is the possibility of power outages around the Shore this weekend including right here in Ocean County.
The first thing I think of with power outages in winter is the "heat". Unless you have a generator if your power goes out, so does your heat. If you have a fireplace make sure you have wood or coal ready and dried for the weekend. Have your wood/coal nearby so it's easy to get in a storm. If you don't have the fireplace/stove...make sure you have extra blankets ready to go plus warm clothes in case you are without heat. Temps after the storm will be in the single digits Sunday morning so this is some severe winter weather coming up this weekend.
After heat, I think "light". If the power goes out make sure you have flashlights and other battery-powered lights ready to go, so that means batteries...stock up and have them ready to go. They won't go to waste...be prepared.
Water, make sure you have water in the house for drinking. Another item is non-refrigerated foods...foods that won't go bad. If you do lose your refrigerator you can always place perishables outside in a box and they should keep in cold weather.
Charge your electronics ahead of the storm so you have a full charge on phones, tablets, and laptops. Keep a battery-powered radio in the house just in case to keep up to date on the latest from 92.7 WOBM.
