South Toms River barricade situation ends peacefully Thursday

A South Toms River man who fled a motor vehicle stop and barricaded himself inside his 29-Hummel Drive home peacefully surrenders to police nearly four hours later.

Ocean County Prosecutors say South Toms River officers arrived at the home of 37-year old Henry Parker around 4:00 pm and saw him standing outside.

He bolted inside.

They followed him in but then heard sounds from another room and believed he may have been trying to secure a weapon.

They pulled out and left the home.

A perimeter was set up, the OC Regional SWAT Team, a negotiator and other law enforcement were called in to surround the home but also assure the safety of the neighbors.

Communication with Parker then took place.

Parker, who was wanted on warrants out of three jurisdictions for criminal and traffic charges, faces several more following his surrender at 7:50 pm.

He will be taken after processing to an area hospital for Psychiatric evaluation and then lodged in the Ocean County Jail pending a first appearance.

At this time he is preliminarily charged with Obstructing, Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Conduct and those charges contained within the outstanding warrants.

A search warrant will also be secured to determine if there are any weapons within the residence.

The public is reminded that criminal charges are merely accusations and that defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
