In September 2016, Ahmad Khan Rahimi planted bombs in Seaside Park, Elizabeth NJ, and Chelsea NY. Those crimes already had him facing life in prison. Now, for good measure, an extra life sentence has been tacked on after Rahimi was involved in a shootout with police.

According to Patch, a jury found Rahami guilty of five counts of attempted murder, one for each of the officers, as well as aggravated assault and weapons offenses.

Rahimi had fallen asleep outside a bar in Elizabeth. The owner called the police, and they recognized him. As they approached, Rahimi pulled a gun and fired on the officers. One was struck in the chest; thankfully his bullet-proof vest saved his life.
