Scammer walks right into police sting in Holmdel

A vigilant Holmdel resident helped police capture a phone scammer who had gone on foot to try and collect money from the victim.

Holmdel Police received a complaint Wednesday from an 89-year-old resident reporting that someone had contacted him and said that his son had been arrested and he would need to pay $6,500.00 to bail him out.

That person advised the victim that someone would be arriving at his house to pick up the money and to go to the bank to withdraw it immediately.

Before withdrawing the money, the resident notified police.

Holmdel Police set up surveillance in the area and watched as 29 –year-old male Franklyn Pichardo from Brooklyn, arrive at the victim’s house.

Pichardo was observed going up to the residence and trying to get the money from the victim.

At that point, Pichardo was placed under arrest and transported to Holmdel Police Headquarters for processing.

Holmdel Police remind residents not give any personal or banking information over the phone and to contact us with any suspicious calls or request for money.
