All these years later, we still bow before the talent that Janis Joplin brought to the music world, one that has never really been duplicated.

For sheer raw energy and emotion, Janis remains the Queen for many of us.

Her stage presence alone was off the charts, according to those who had the luck to see her perform.

And you can most definitely catch a glimpse of what they experienced when watching taped footage of this amazing singer.

She died at age 27 on this day, October 4, in 1970, when her wild habits finally got the better of her and she succumbed to her heroin habit, overdosing on the drug (with the possible addition of alcohol).

Rolling Stone magazine ranked Joplin number 46 on its list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time" in 2004, and number 28 on its 2008 list of "100 Greatest Singers of All Time."

But we didn't really need a list to tell us how great she truly was, did we?

R.I.P. Janis!
