I can't believe we are well into the year 2021 and I'm reporting that a backward and antiquated golf course in our own state of New Jersey is just now allowing women to play golf. Is this Bizarro World?
No, it's Pine Valley, NJ. Located in Camden County, Pine Valley is the second-smallest municipality in New Jersey.
Speaking of small, the minds in Pine Valley are tiny. Women are prohibited from playing golf at Pine Valley Golf Course unless it's a Sunday afternoon and they are accompanied by a man. I know. It's hard to wrap your head around.
Well, I'm happy to tell you that after 100 years of suppressing women, Pine Valley Golf Course President Jim Davis told members in an email obtained by Golf Digest and Golf magazines that:
the future of golf must move toward inclusion.
How progressive of you!
The Pine Valley Prez went on to say:
And I am pleased to report that the Trustees and members of the Pine Valley Golf Club have voted unanimously and with enthusiasm to remove all gender-specific language from our bylaws.
Pine Valley is hopeful to have its first female members by the end of the year.
*insert golf clap here*
By the way, shame on Golf Digest and Golf for naming Pine Valley the number one golf course in America once again for 2021.
Visually, the greens are beautiful. However, how could these publications award a golf course that up until just this week prevented women from playing and becoming members?
If you think the golf restrictions are/were insane. Women are not allowed to purchase a home in Pine Valley, NJ. Yup, sadly this is a real thing.
My message to Pine Valley Golf Course members: go ahead and pat yourself on the backs for being so "forward-thinking" and believing that you've "turned the corner" on equal rights. Shame on all of you for taking this long to offer golf to women. It's a stupid sport anyway. Oh, and by the way, you look ridiculous in your getup.
