The Philadelphia Eagles’ may not have had any elite defensive units in 2021, but they did rank in or near the Top 10 in many key areas.  The team finished ranked No. 11 against the pass this season, improving from 237.4 passing yards per in game in 2020 to 220.9 passing yards per game in 2021.

Football analytics site Pro Football Focus, ranked the Eagles' secondary 14th in its year-end review of the NFL.

Darius “Big Play” Slay played a big part in the Eagles cracking a spot in the top half of the league. The veteran had a career year, earning the highest coverage grade (83.9) of his nine years in the NFL ranks. That mark was also good for fourth-best at the position in the 2021 regular season. Overall, Philadelphia's cornerback room finished second in coverage grade this season.

PFF writer Anthony Treash, broke down the Eagles’ secondary play and highlighted veteran cornerback Darius Slay, which was a big reason the Eagles secondary landed in the Top 15 of the rankings.

However the Eagles secondary might have a much different look in 2022, with veterans Steve Nelson, Anthony Harris and Rodney McLeod all free agents this offseason.

The team could look to add both a corner and safety with one of their three first-round picks in April draft or bring back one of their free agents.

The team gave a contract extension to Avonte Maddox, drafted Zech McPhearson and brought in a bunch of young corners last season and have Marcus Epps and K'Von Wallace returning at safety.

So while the Eagles secondary ranked 14th it will have a much different look in 2022.
