NJ woman was doing 90 mph in DWI crash that killed 17-year old

A Pemberton woman who was doing 90 mph at night with no head lights on while under the influence of alcohol after leaving a bar in Browns Mills, has been charged with DWI and causing the death of the 17-year old girl whose car she hit last month.

The Superior Court Judge overseeing the case ordered the driver, 54-year old Wanda Sprague of Pemberton Browns Mills Road, not to have any contact with the victim's family, according to a joint statement Thursday from Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina and Pemberton Police Chief Jason Watters

Sprague has been charged with Reckless Manslaughter (First Degree) and Vehicular Homicide (Second Degree) criminally as well as being given multiple traffic citations including Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs and following her appearance in court on Thursday, her case is on its way to a grand jury for a possible indictment.

On the night that claimed the young girls life on December 16, Pemberton Police learned that Sprague had consumed alcohol at a bar in Browns Mills, then took off topping out at speeds of more than 90 mph in her Chrysler 300 while driving without headlights on at the time of the accident which was close to 9:00 pm at night.

She crashed into the Nissan Sentra driven by 17-year old Kayla Bowen of Pemberton along Lakehurst Road and Rancocas Lane.

Bowen was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said that Sprague suffered extensive injuries from the accident and is still recovering.

She is being prosecuted by Burlington County Assistant Prosecutor Joshua Dennis, who is also the supervisor of the BCPO Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit.
