It is one of the most important days of the year and also a reminder that this one day needs to be carried out on the other 364 days on the calendar -- and that's Veterans Day.

We need to continue to find ways to not just remember Veterans and honor their sacrifice and all that they've done and do to protect us, but to listen to them -- their stories, but, also what their needs are, how we can help, what is needed to help them, and what can be done to help active military members as well.

It's a great tradition in November each year that schools take time out to hold special ceremonies and events dedicated to Veterans in our area.

There is a great need to have events, lectures, and ceremonies to thank our Veterans and show our gratitude to each and every one of them.

As we look ahead to next month, there are a few school districts in Ocean County that have already announced their plans to honor our Veterans with special events coming up.

On November 3, there will be the 18th annual Manchester Township High School 'Salute To Our Veterans' Veterans Recognition Ceremony being held from 2:00-2:30 pm in the high school auditorium and all local Veterans are invited to attend this special day along with members of the public, according to Manchester Township High School.

All those in attendance will see a Presentation of Colors, speeches, Armed Forces Musical Arrangement, and a recognition of Veterans.

During this ceremony as well with the NJROTC Color Guard parading the colors, the Manchester Township High School Concert Choir singing the “Star Spangled Banner”,  the MTHS Concert Band performing an Armed Forces Medley and Amazing Grace on drums and bagpipes and Taps on bugle, and  LCDR John C Holzer U.S. Navy (Retired) will make opening and closing remarks and introduce guest speaker ADC Glenn Kildare who is a retired Navy Aviation Machinists Mate Chief Petty Officer who currently works on the Lakehurst side of JB-MDL (Joint Base Mcguire Dix Lakehurst).

Hooper Avenue Elementary School in Toms River will hold their 16th annual 'Take a Veteran to School Day' on Friday November 4 where a special ceremony is held in the gym/auditorium as children sing to the Veterans and show their appreciation and thanks, according to Doug Hynoski, a teacher at the Hoop.

Following the ceremony, the group of Veterans who are there then spread out and visit classrooms within the school to talk to the children about their service and answer any questions that they have for them.

This is a special tradition at Hooper Avenue Elementary School every November.
