I think I like the idea of having a drone more than actually having one. I see amazing videos that people shoot over the shore, or of snowy landscapes, and I think it'd be cool to do that myself. Then I remember I don't live close enough to the beach to really make it worth it, and I'm probably too lazy to edit video, and I don't want to be known around my neighborhood as "that guy who flies a drone over our houses" because I don't want to be a creep.

The NJ state legislature is trying to clamp down on drone creeps by banning their flight over schools and homes. The proposed bill looks to add the use of "unmanned aircraft systems" to crimes of trespassing and invasion of privacy.

The law would make it a third-degree offense if someone "operates an unmanned aircraft system for the purpose of photographing, filming, videotaping, recording, or otherwise reproducing in any manner, the image of another person … without that person’s consent and under circumstances in which a reasonable person would not expect to be observed."

It also says anyone who "operates an unmanned aircraft system for the purpose of observing another person without that person’s consent and under circumstances in which a reasonable person would not expect to be observed", so even something like flying over the beach wouldn't be allowed.

Obviously I agree that people shouldn't be allowed to fly a drone and peek into someone's window or hover over a backyard pool, and I totally agree that schools should be off-limits. Don't be a drone creep!
