NJ Senate Says Self-Serve Gas Will Never Happen
All of the recent issues surrounding Chris Christie, the gas tax, and the Transportation Trust Fund have thrust the debate over self-serve gas back into the spotlight.
Supporters of self-serve claim it could save ten cents or more per gallon. NJ Senate President Stephen Sweeney counters that idea, saying
I’ve never been a supporter of self-serve. The retailers are controlling the numbers. All you’re doing is increasing their profit. You won’t see the savings because it just disappears.’’
Sweeney also says he’ll never allow self-serve legislation to move forward on his watch.
New Jersey is the only state that still bans self-service at gas stations.
