Hurricane Season 2025, Here's What New Jersey Needs To Know

Spring and Summer at the shore are really magical times of the year; the weather is getting nicer, we can spend more time outdoors, and it's just a great time to call Jersey home.

However, this time of year can also brew trouble for New Jersey thanks to vicious storms, some of which are nameable, and of those named storms some of them will eventually turn into hurricanes.

When Does Hurricane Season Start In New Jersey For 2025?

Much like the winter solstice or the start of Spring, there's a date for hurricane season to start as well, and this year it looks like hurricane season officially kicks off June 1st, although according to APP storms have been developing as early as May.

Hurricane season runs roughly six months, wraps up near the end of November and hits its peak in early September.

And this year could potentially be a longer and rougher hurricane season than in years past.

New Jersey's Hurricane Forecast For 2025 Has Been Revealed

We got a little luck in 2024, we had no major hurricanes make landfall at in Jersey although we did get some impacts and flooding from some pretty wild Nor'Easters.

APP reports that in 2025 New Jersey may not be so lucky.

It looks like the country as a whole could see a busier hurricane season due to warmer temperatures and a return of more El Nino conditions, which are a heavy contributor to hurricanes.

Early estimates show that Jersey could be in for a 28 percent chance of at least one named storm blowing through our state.

On top of that, there's a 9 percent chance that the storm could develop into a major hurricane, according to APP.

Fortunately for us, Jersey's location along the coastline prevents us from getting a lot of direct hits from hurricanes, but that doesn't mean it can't happen.
