A motorcycle driver allegedly trying to evade police in Jackson Thursday night is killed after striking a car trying to turn left onto South New Prospect Road, according to the Ocean County Prosecutors Office.

Investigators say 22-year old Anthony Griffin had come eastbound from Brewers Bridge Road when he sped through a red light and then turned right onto South New Prospect Road which initiated the police pursuit shortly after 10:00 pm.

The patrol car activated his overhead lights and began to follow Griffin.

That's when police say Griffin accelerated for about ten seconds heading toward Oak Drive when his 2004 Red Yamaha 999 Motorcycle collided with the driver side door of a 2008 Grey Hyundai Elantra driven by 24-year old Eric Larson of Jackson Township.

As a result of the crash, Griffin was pronounced deceased on scene.

Larson was transported to Jersey Shore Medical where he is listed in critical condition.

Jackson Township Police and Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Fatal Accident investigation Unit had responded to the area of South New Prospect Road and Oak Drive to investigate the crash.

The partnering agencies investigation, with assistance from the Ocean County Sheriff's CSI Unit, and review of the patrol unit's MVR (Mobile Video Recorder) video extracted by the Ocean County Prosecutors High Tech Crime Unit helped investigators determine what led to the accident.

The investigation also found the motorcycle was unregistered with fictitious license plates attached.
