It's about this time of year when our weekends start getting booked quickly as we make plans to visit friends and family for the holidays.

In an attempt to keep all of us safe on the roads this season, some Monmouth County towns are participating in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.

This is not a new thing. Every year about one hundred or so police departments receive grants to add officers on the roads looking for those who are driving impaired.

This program will run through January 1, 2022.

According to nj.com, last year's campaign resulted in 590 DUI arrests, and 3,121 speeding, and 817 seat belt violations issued.

Those are scary numbers.

Keep in mind that the 590 arrests were just the people who got caught.

Unfortunately, there were likely many others that were under the influence and didn't get nabbed.

There is a simple solution to not being pulled over.

You guessed it - drive sober, responsibly, and wear your seatbelt.

It's not that hard if you think about it.

The following Monmouth County police departments received a $6,000 State grant for the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.

  • Brielle
  • Keyport
  • Middletown
  • Monmouth County Sheriff

Howell got a whopping $10,500.

I'm rather surprised that only four Monmouth County towns are taking part in this program.

Where are other larger municipalities like Freehold, or Marlboro just to mention a few?

I'm in full support of this blitz because it keeps us and our loved ones safe.

Here's to safe and sober travels this holiday season in Monmouth County.

Some very Jersey things that shouldn't be.
