Miles Austin and I attended Monmouth University around the same time. He started two years after me, and since I was a member of the pep band playing at all football games, I got to watch the beginning of his incredible college career.

While I focused on my studies (and spent all my free time at the college radio station), Miles entered the NFL. Diff'rent strokes and all. After ten years with the Cowboys, Eagles, and Browns, Austin retired after the 2015 season.

Austin left college to join the NFL before he completed his degree, and he went back and finished the old-fashioned way: sitting in class and actually doing the work.

I went back because I want to be able to tell my kids, finish what you start. I wanted to be in the classroom, I wanted to learn from professors, and history is something I’m passionate about.
