Middletown Police have placed a pair in handcuffs after they allegedly assaulted a teenager in the midst of an armed robbery on Tuesday afternoon, around 12:25 pm.

A Middletown Police Patrolman was in the area of Ocean Avenue and Port Monmouth Road when he was flagged down by the victim of an armed robbery.

The 17 year old male told the officer that he was robbed and assaulted by someone armed with a knife.

He was not stabbed but did sustain non-life-threatening injuries as a result of a physical assault.

The victim reported that he had money and earphones stolen during the robbery.

Responding officers investigated the report and quickly wrapped up the probe with the arrest of Ayonna Williams, 19, of Aberdeen and a 16 year-old juvenile male of Middletown.

Williams was charged with robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, conspiracy, and employing a juvenile in the commission of a crime.

The juvenile was charged with robbery, conspiracy, and hindering the apprehension of another.

Both are currently in custody awaiting detention.

Police were able to recover the victim’s stolen property.
