A Lakewood man who led Jackson Police on a pursuit by car and on foot has been arrested.

Jackson Police Officers noticed a 2003 Infiniti that had some equipment violations heading down Buckingham Drive and when they looked up the vehicle they learned that the registered owner had a suspended driver's license.

The officers attempted to catch up to the vehicle which was accelerating over the 25 miles per hour posted speed limit.

Officers then followed the vehicle onto Cambridge Drive and as the patrol unit’s emergency lights were activated, the car pulled to the side of the road and parked.

The male driver then exited the vehicle and began to walk into a back yard of a residence.

As the officers instructed the male driver to stop, he then ran into a wooded area behind the residence.

After a short foot pursuit into the woods, the officers were able to catch the male and place him under arrest and recovered several small baggies of heroin, marijuana and cash in excess of $1,000.00.

Several more bags of heroin which were consistent with those packaged for sale and additional marijuana was recovered from the vehicle which was impounded.

Anderson Nascimento, 31, was processed and charged with possession of heroin, possession of heroin with the intent to distribute, possession of marijuana (under 50 grams), possession of drug paraphernalia, obstruction by means of flight, operating a motor vehicle while in possession of a controlled dangerous substance, driving with a suspended driver’s license and equipment violations.

Nascimento remains in the Ocean County Jail.
