Ocean County Resident Charged With Child Porn Offenses
An Ocean County man who had a foster home for kids is facing a long list of child porn-related charges, including for allegedly recording the children who were in his own home.
Arrest in Point Pleasant Borough
On Thursday, 42-year-old John Olson of Point Pleasant Borough was arrested and charged with the following:
- Manufacturing child sexual abuse material (CSAM)
- Distribution of CSAM
- Possession of CSAM
Investigation Begins With Tip
The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office says their investigation began after they received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that indicated someone was uploading images of child porn to the internet via an app.
An investigation ... identified an IP address associated with a Point Pleasant Borough residence as the location from which the individual was accessing and uploading images of Child Sexual Abuse Material from the internet. That individual was ultimately identified as Olson.
Search of Home and Evidence Seized
On August 22nd, law enforcement officers descended upon Olson's home and several electronic devices were seized.
Prosecutors say as their investigation continued, they found that Olson "had utilized the internet application Kik to upload an image of Child Sexual Abuse material to other users."
Foster Home Discovery
Detectives also learned that Olson's home was being used as a foster home and that there were cameras in the children's bedrooms.
According to detectives, a forensic examination of the electronic devices that were seized at Olson's home allegedly found that a cell phone belonging to him contained nude images of children, which appear to have been taken by the cameras in the children's bedrooms.
Held in Jail
Olson is being held in the Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing.
Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer thanked those in his office, the Point Pleasant Borough Police Department, the Ocean County Regional SWAT Team, the New Jersey State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children for their work in this case.
The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
