Will A New El Niño Winter Forecast Mean Snow For New Jersey?
If you’re hoping for some good old-fashioned snow in New Jersey this winter, you may want to keep an eye on El Niño.
Forecasters are watching a strong El Niño developing in the Pacific Ocean, and it could have an impact on the weather pattern across the United States.
So, does that mean New Jersey is going to get a lot of snow? Not necessarily.
El Niño can influence the jet stream and storm tracks, which could bring more moisture toward the East Coast. But here’s the big thing for us in New Jersey: we need cold temperatures, too.
A storm can bring plenty of moisture, but if temperatures are too warm, that could mean rain instead of snow. We could also see sleet or freezing rain.
That’s why it’s still way too early to say whether New Jersey is in for a snowy winter. El Niño can give forecasters some clues about the overall pattern, but it doesn’t tell us exactly what every storm will bring.
Still, if you’re someone who loves watching the snow fall, this is definitely something to keep an eye on.
Personally, I’m always interested when the possibility of a snowy Jersey winter starts popping up.
According to a recent article from Patch, "In New Jersey, expect a 40 to 50 percent chance of above-normal temperatures and precipitation."
Now we just have to wait and see what Mother Nature has planned for us! I do think snow around Christmas is always nice, right?
