New Jersey: Do you think the Parkway Should Get Rid of Cash Toll Payment?

If you live in Ocean County, chances are, you're driving on the Garden State Parkway at least once a week.  And at times, it can get pretty backed up.

One of the biggest causes of traffic on the parkway is toll booths.  Often, people are struggling to find the correct amount of change to pay the toll.  They're not prepared before they stop, and it holds things up.  (But, we can't judge because we've probably all been there.)

Have you ever driven through a cashless toll road before?  It's pretty convenient as it minimizes stop time.  Most systems rely on E-Z Pass, or will snap a photo of your license plate and bill you via mail.

I think this is a great solution for a heavily traveled road like the Garden State Parkway, especially during beach season.  Plus, people rarely use cash anymore, so we have less change lying around. Cashless tolls would eliminate the stress of trying to find loose and exact change moments before you're stopped to pay.

This possibility could become a reality on the parkway soon.

According to NJ.com, the New Jersey Turnpike Authority (they're in charge of the Parkway & Turnpike), voted for cashless tolls on both roads.  The article explains that the Parkway will see the changes first, and it's estimated to happen over the next 3-4 years.  You'll still have the option to pay cash on the Turnpike.

Would you like to see cashless tolls on New Jersey highways?  At this point, I think it's time for the Garden State to step into the future!
