Someone in Ocean County, New Jersey is $10k Richer. Is it you?
It's time to check those lottery tickets.
Inflation is killing us all lately. Gas prices are on the rise again, groceries are going up, and the real estate market is abysmal.
Now, more than ever, we could use some extra cash. And if you're a lucky Ocean County Mega Millions ticket holder, you just scored some relief in the form of $10,000. That third prize winning ticket, and the top prized ticket worth $1 million were sold in New Jersey.
Before I get into the details about where the winning ticket was purchased, I was curious about what the odds of winning the lottery actually are. We hear about lucky lotto winners all the time, and it feels like a lot of the tickets are purchased in Ocean County.
GoBankingRates broke down our chances of winning the lotto down nicely: if you're just playing the New Jersey lottery, your odds of winning are 1 in 42 million, but if you're playing a nationwide drawing like Mega Millions, are 1 in 176 million.
1 in 176 million, yet 2 people from New Jersey managed to claim some of the top prizes. Are we just that lucky?
So where were the winning tickets purchased? Per NJ Lottery, the ticket worth $1 million was bought at a Quick Chek in Union. The $10,000 winning ticket was purchased much closer to home, at the Wawa on Route 72 and Mermaid Drive in Manahawkin.
The winning numbers were 15, 18, 25, 33, and 38, with a Gold Mega Ball of 25 and a Mega Multiplier of 02.
Congratulations to the lucky winners. Hopefully we can all end up in your shoes one day!
