I’m almost shocked by how much stuff I have stored on my iPhone.  Think about it, it is the most common product people have on them at any time.  It is secure and reliable.  There is nothing like it.

When I look through my phone, I have everything from podcasts, songs, videos, and over 20,000 photos, yes 20,000.  Kind of mind-blowing.

Also, and I don’t know if I should admit this, but most of my bills, banking, and even my car keys are on my phone.  Seriously, it is a huge lifeline.

Just think about what you currently have on your phone.

I haven’t gone as far as adding personal documents like a copy of my passport, driver’s license, or the list of my passwords in notes on my iPhone.  I know people who do.  It is a true vault of information.

That’s at least one thing I can control if I lose my phone, which wouldn’t be a first.

There are a lot of people in the world that use their phones.  Since its release in the early 2000s, the numbers, each year, have grown significantly.  There are an estimated 1 billion iPhones out there, right now, according to Apple.

That’s pretty amazing for a product that has only been around since, what, 2007?  2008?  To be honest, I didn't buy in right away.  I was a Blackberry user.  There was no way I was giving up my Blackberry Bold.  There was no way.  Until I purchased my first MacBook Pro.  Then, I fully converted.  There is no looking back.

So, the important question.  Going back to the simple observation, if you are like me, we use our iPhones for everything.  From contacts to photos, everyday life, this product has changed our lives.  If you’re a responsible user, you most likely have FACE ID enabled and/or a passcode to protect your phone.  If you do, A+ on security.

With everything secure, most of your content, if you are an iPhone user, is stored in iCloud.  Including emails, notes, photos, contacts, and even your backups.

Hang on to this question but what happens if you are no longer here tomorrow.  I know, kind of jarring, but hey, it is a fact of life.  If you have a passcode set, and you’re the only one that knows it, how can people get into your phone to retrieve vital information?

There is a way and it is called Legacy Contact.

What is Legacy Contact?

This is a feature Apple introduced where, prior to your death, you can grant someone access to your account and data.  Now, if you are worried about someone accessing your data as soon as you grant them permission, no fear, it doesn’t work that way.  According to Apple, the designated person will need to submit a death certificate.

This is a great way to make sure your data gets into the right hands and only when it is time to do so.

What can be accessed in your iCloud account?

According to Apple, data that can be retrieved are your photos, messages, notes, files, and even backups.  Items that you cannot access, are movies, music, books, and other subscriptions.

Here are the first steps to adding someone to the list.

This is a feature, where you can designate a family member or a friend, to have access to your data in the event of your passing.
