Help 9-Year-Old Toms River, New Jersey Girl Battle Leukemia Via Punch-A-Thon
There's nothing more human than helping others out. And there's a strong girl in Toms River that's going through a 3rd fight with leukemia. She needs our help.
For this project, it's important that you know the team. Introducing Reese Madison, a fighter, along with Calista Silletti and Katia Moderno, kickboxers, and you. They'll need your support to make this event impactful.
Here's a little about Reese. She's a 9-year-old battling Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. According to a GoFundMe set up to help Reese and her parents, this is Reese's "second relapse, which means that in her nine years of life Reese has had cancer three times. It also means that Reese and her family have a long battle in front of them as well as overwhelming expenses that unfortunately come with a cancer diagnosis." Clearly, she's a fighter. Obviously, she needs our support and something as small as a positive message of encouragement could have a positive impact.
Calista and Katia created the CKO Kickboxing Cancer Punch-A-Thon. Calista explains that "when I heard about her fight, I wanted to use my gym to help fight for her." On May 15th, 2021 at 8 am, Calista and Katia will host a 24-hour event to raise money to help Reese. The way it works is really cool. Check this out.
- The event will be live-streamed via Calista's Instagram, so you can watch.
- You are encouraged to attend, taking a class, and donating. Sign up here.
- There will be kids classes, glow night, vendors, raffles, and more.
- When you donate, the value will correlate to an exercise. They are:
- $1 = 1 push-up
- $5 = 5 burpees
- $10 = 10 squats
- $25 = 25 mountain climbers
- $50 = 50 crunches
- $100 = 100 punches
Great idea Calista and Katia! I'm hoping it's a big success for Reese and her family. This is another reason why our cluster of Townsquare Media radio stations has teamed up with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Sadly, there are many other children and adults battling through these cancers. If you know someone that needs help, the LLS resource number is 1-800-955-4572. They offer free services for families, 1 on 1, support, and other important info. They have a great event on May 15th as well. We're partnering to support Big Climb New Jersey. It's a virtual event with a big mission as they explain. "Every step you take will help fuel the research and care that has made The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society the gold standard of cancer non-profits."
